A Bridge to Take Wall Street Firms from Grid to Cloud

Grid vendor Platform Computing introduced a private cloud offering this week. What does it take to migrate from a grid to cloud computing?

Many Wall Street firms are puzzling over how and whether they should adopt cloud computing inside their organizations. The promised benefits — pay-per-use, easier resource sharing, faster provisioning of desktops, servers and other resources — are all appealing, provided the implementation isn't too difficult and security issues can be ironed out.

On the implementation side, grid vendor Platform Computing this week rolled out a product called ISF that's geared toward financial services firms and meant to create an internal cloud, automate the delivery of self-service compute resources to developers and provide them with application environments in minutes from a shared pool of available resources.
